Anti-spam policy
Last updated September 28, 2026
ShopMail, operated by Triple Layer, sends email for Shopify stores to their own customers. We do not allow spam, and we do not rely on merchants to police themselves: the rules below are built into the app and enforced automatically.
Where email addresses come from
- Only from the merchant’s own Shopify store: people who bought, started a checkout or created an account there. ShopMail syncs them from Shopify.
- There is no way to upload, import or paste a list into ShopMail. Purchased, rented or scraped lists cannot enter the app.
Who gets which email
- Marketing emails (campaigns, abandoned checkout reminders, welcome, win back and review requests) go only to customers whose email marketing consent in Shopify is “subscribed”. ShopMail checks consent again just before every send, so a customer who unsubscribed a minute ago is not emailed.
- Order emails (order thank you, shipping updates) go only to the customer who placed that order, about that order.
- Order emails and marketing emails are sent from separate subdomains, so the two never share a reputation.
Unsubscribing
- Every marketing email has a visible unsubscribe link and the one-click unsubscribe headers that Gmail, Yahoo and Outlook show next to the sender.
- An unsubscribe takes effect immediately, and ShopMail writes it back to the customer’s consent in Shopify, so the store’s other tools respect it too.
- Every marketing email shows the store’s name and postal address.
Bounces and spam reports
- An address that hard bounces, or a person who marks an email as spam, is suppressed permanently for that store and never emailed again.
- We receive delivery, bounce and spam report notifications from our email provider for every email, in real time.
Automatic limits for every store
- Warm up. A new store starts at 200 marketing emails a day. The limit roughly doubles each day of good sending (400, 800, 1,500 and so on), so no new store can send a large blast on its first day.
- Automatic pause. If a store’s spam reports go above 0.3 percent, or its hard bounces above 5 percent, its marketing emails stop automatically and the merchant is told why in the app. Order emails keep going.
- Our own monitoring. The Triple Layer team is alerted when bounces across ShopMail reach 2 percent, or spam reports 0.1 percent, over 24 hours, well below the limits mailbox providers enforce, and we find and review the store behind it.
- We pause or remove any store that breaks these rules or our terms of service.
What is never allowed
- Emailing anyone who has not subscribed to marketing from that store.
- Misleading senders or subject lines, phishing, malware, or illegal, deceptive or harassing content.
- Trying to work around consent, suppression or the sending limits, for example with several stores emailing the same people.
Merchants must also follow the laws that apply to them, such as CAN-SPAM, GDPR and CASL.
If you received an email sent through ShopMail that you did not ask for, tell us at support@shopmailapp.com with the email attached or forwarded. We investigate every report, usually within one business day, and pause the store while we do if it looks like spam.
